Another Best In Show!

I'm proud and excited to announce that we have taken another "Best In Show" win on November 19, 2006 at Rochester In, Indiana State Angora Rabbit Specialty Club show. Bob Shaftoe did an outstanding job judging! There were 67 Angoras in attendance. Run Down Ranch took BIS, BOB English Angora, BOB & BOS Satin Angora and BOS French Angora.
In the all-breed show the same day we took BOB English Angora, BOB & BOS Satin Angora and BOS French Angora and we got "honorable mention" for "Best 4 Class". Cathy Patrick judged Angoras for that show.
We had a very exciting day and fun visiting with the Angora breeders from the Indiana club.

Full siblings to "Dumbledore" will be for sale this late winter/early spring. These are 4th generation "Run Down Ranch" rabbits!

Satin Angoras!

My middle daughter, Kiley, and I are working on Satin Angoras together. This is Kiley's chocolate tort 7 month old doe. She has, to her credit, 2 BOB wins as a Sr. and 4 BOB wins as a Jr. We have excellent type but need more sheen. We are currently working hard to improve the sheen and to produce some nice whites. So far we have torts, fawns, and reds; we have some blacks in the nestbox.

We will have Satin Angora babies for sale this Spring!

Gorgeous French Angora Does

This is Brat, my chinchilla French doe. Yes, She is a "Brat"! She has done very well on the showtables- granded this Summer. Brat is now retired from showing to be a brood doe and fiber producer. She gave us 2 very nice litters. Colors included chocolate chin, REW, chocolate agouti, chocolate, silver tipped steel and sable. As Jrs. her offspring have done well for themselves at the shows. I kept all of her babies except one. I'll let you know how they do as Srs. soon! She is currently bred to my chestnut agouti buck.

This picture of my chocolate agouti doe was taken just as she became a Sr. That same day I removed her coat and bred her to my chestnut buck. She now has 9 kits in her nest box. The colors appear to be chocolate agouti, chestnut, black, chocolate and chocolate chin. She has excellent type and did well on the showtable but got beat out most of the time by her black sister who is a bit nicer. I look forward to weaning her litter and conditioning her to go back onto the showtable as a Sr.

This black doe is the litter mate to the above doe. They are out of a chestnut doe and a lilac buck. Everytime she hit the showtable she has been 1st place Jr. doe. She is now a Sr. and has 8 kits in her nestbox. Her litter was 12 LARGE so I fostered some out to other does. As soon as her litter is weaned she will be shown as a Sr. and will be a hard one to beat!

This is "Emily's Slytherin" a Sr. English Angora doe. "Sly" is one of the nicest typed does we have bred. She has a tiny round little body, well filled shoulders, and very dense wool. She has 8 BOB wins and is now bred to a nice chocolate agouti buck- due 11/21/06. "Carpenter's Hufflepuff", littermate to "Sly", is bred to a chinchilla buck and due the same day as her sister. We are looking forward to getting some nice colored English for the Spring shows. REWs are gorgeous but they are extremely hard to keep clean!

Best 4 Class

"Astrid" my REW English Angora doe took "Best 4 Class" at the July 8th Coldwater, MI all-breed show! What an accomplishment! We went up against a Californian for "Best In Show" and the Cal took it. At the next doulbe show on August 26th "Astrid had "honorable mention" for 4-Class both show A and show B. We are getting more and more excited as we move towards a "Best In Show" at an all-breed show.

My First BIS! Thank You Breloom!

Carpenter's Breloom gave us our very first "Best In Show" at the Huntington, IN. New Year's Eve Angora Specialty this Saturday! We had 41 rabbits exhibited in the show with more than half of those rabbits being French Angoras. Brian Hartzell, our judge, was very impressed with Breloom and thought she had a good chance at getting "Best 4 Class" at the all-breed show later that evening. Kyle Cunningham judged the all-breed show and was equally impressed with Breloom. Unfortunately she did not go on to take "4 Class". But we got some great compliments and we had a very good time talking and laughing with our rabbit friends! Breloom was cut down and bred to our lilac buck on Monday. Hopefully she will give us some very nice babies! She is now a "Grand Champion"!
